This collaborative project will demonstrate applicability of UV-disinfection in wastewater treatment using UV-LEDs and solar radiation.
Decrease of disinfection process operational costs and improvement of its safety by replacing conventional systems with the novel ones are aims to be achieved. Intensively developing market of LED technologies affords ground to innovate existing disinfection processes. Main output of the suggested project is expected to be demonstration of possibility of both systems to compete or complement each other. In addition, solar and UV-LED disinfection may be enhanced by the use of a photocatalyst such as titanium dioxide (TiO2), which will be incorporated to disinfection process for comparison in the demonstrations.
